<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">In approaching Holy Week, finally reaching Easter, we
are reminded to ponder the most Holy, awe inspiring time in Creation. “When Sunday comes,” what will you be
thinking? “When Sunday comes,” what will
our hearts be thinking? “When Sunday comes,” what will our church be thinking?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">We have journeyed through Lent, are entering Holy
Week (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and other Easter activities), now we
anticipate Resurrection Sunday – but it is not quite here yet. Our Lenten Journey offered us a time of
“fasting,” reflection, and self-examination, devotion; a time to consider our
relationship with God, Self and others.
We had the time to consider God’s Love for us, reflect on our “sin,” to
accept and offer forgiveness to Self and others, to be thankful to our Grace
extending God, and reflect more on what God’s Love for us does mean.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">The Lenten Journey is so much more than abstaining,

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Easter – Triumph after Our Lord cried; “It is
Finished!” Easter – Resurrection! Easter – Restoration! Easter – Jubilation!
Easter, when we can begin a new journey that embraces the old being “finished,”
but also a time we embrace new beginnings – with Christ’s Risen Power empowering
us for God’s purpose! Easter, a time when we may say; “Father, into Your hands,
I commit my spirit.”
<span style="font-family: "Californian FB","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Today, Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or to volunteer and give of themselves for others. Sundays in Lent are not counted in the forty days because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter" and the reverent spirit of Lent is tempered with joyful anticipation of the Resurrection.
Did you know we can have Thanksgiving everyday?! Yes, we can. Thanksgiving and gratitude is available to us any time of the day or night that we choose to acknowledge it. Our choice of thankfulness and gratitude must be intentional and a proactive choice.

So how do we experience Thanksgiving everyday?
1). Simply, be thankful.
(O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy
endureth for ever. Psalm 106:1)

2). Even in the smallest way, give thanks.
(In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you. I Thessalonians 5:18)

3). A lifestyle of gratitude is having an attitude of thanksgiving and gratefulness daily.
(We always and everywhere acknowledge it with profound gratitude. Acts 24:3)
<span style="font-family: "Baskerville Old Face","serif";">While sitting on my patio one morning, I was
greeted by my neighbor’s wife. I see
them walking and I speak to them often.
We always share pleasantries.
Yet, I had not been introduced to the wife. On this particular morning, I was gazing at
the clouds, enjoying the warmth of the morning, seeing the dew on the grass and
feeling the gentle breeze. Low and
behold, the wife came up to my space, smiled and said, “Hi. I am Mercy.”
Of course, I was amazed and thought perhaps, I misunderstood her
name. So I said, “Hi. Did you say, ‘Mercy – M-E-R-C-Y?’?” She smiled sweetly and said, “Yes. I am Mercy.”

Jesus.” Mercy gave a little giggle, just
like she knew she was a special gift from God to me that morning. So, I did what any joyful child of God would
do. I giggled too. We continued to chat and getting to know

was gazing upon God’s glory called creation.
Mercy just showed up. My encounter
with Mercy reminded me of two verses: Psalm 23:6; “Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow you/us all the days of your/our lives.” The other is 2 Chronicles 5:13; “For His
mercy endures forever.” God’s goodness
and God’s mercy not only follows us, but will show up when we least expect it
and in any number of ways. My question:
will we recognize her when She shows up?
For once, I didn’t miss it. I pray that when Goodness, Mercy and other
of God’s Graces appear, we will recognize them.

walk up to us. Praises to God, God’
mercy endures forever.
Wash Up, Say Grace; Let's Eat!

This past Sunday was Holy Communion. I was always moved by receiving the Sacrament. Administering the Sacred Host, now that has a whole new meaning for me. I am simply awe struck by the significance of the Bread and the Cup. I long to be perpetually humbled by the gift of sharing The Bread of Life with those in my care. Most of all, this is a time that I not only remember God's mighty acts in Christ Jesus but I also remember and am nurtured by being chosen to feed Christ's sheep.

Three simple points to remember from Sunday's message: Wash Up; Say Grace; Let's Eat!

The reason why we "eat and drink" - 3R's: Reflection, Responsibilty and Repentence.

As people in special relationship with God, we reflect on what we do. We take responsibility for our choices (no blaming or excuses). And we repent, asking God's forgiveness. (See Ps. 51:1-12)

When we eat the bread and drink of the Cup of Christ, Holy Communion offeres us a time to reflct, take responsibility and repent of our sins. When we remember all that God has generously given us in Christ Jesus, our reflection is a time that we take responsibility to see those things for which we need to repent and ask forgiveness. Upon asking/acknowledging and receiving forgiveness, we are thankful. Hence, we wash up; say grace/give thanks, we eat and drink. Here in are we nurtured, sustained, and energized for our journey.

Our Prayer:

We praise you, O God, for the meaning that You give to our lives in and through Christ Jesus, the Bread of Life. He is the sign of Your deep and everlasting love for the world. We rejoice in His promise to sustain us with His Life. We praise You for filling our emptiness with His Goodness. May we worship and praise you and express our thanks for Your gift to us in the True Bread from Heaven - Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Our focus Scripture was from Psalm 24 and the topic was What an Awesome God We Serve.

When we think of the awesome love of our God to whom whole the earth belongs and the fullness there in, all who live in it - especially each one of us, we get to rethink what an incredible God we are loved by. We are loved, healed, protected and provided for by the King of Glory! Who is the King of Glory''s name? Our Awesome God, Christ Jesus!

Please come join us for Sunday School or Worship next Sunday. We sure would enjoy seeing you there...

We will be waiting to see you! Because we are Boldly committed to saring new life in Jesus Christ with you and your family!
Sunday School is at 9:45 AM and Worship is at 10:45AM.
1) Holy Thursday Service (April 5th). Also called Maundy Thursday, this is the night we recall Jesus' final meal with his disciples. On this night he shared a meal with them, washed their feet and gave them a "new commandment," to love each other as he had loved them. That message is just as important and relevant for us today.

The service begins at 7pm and includes Holy Communion and Foot Washing. These two elements of the service are voluntary; no one is going to make you participate. Both are, however, meaningful parts of our worship together.

2) Good Friday Service (April 6th). On Good Friday we remember the death of Jesus. His death was real, and he suffered much. Our spiritual well-being and salvation came at a great price. This service begins at 7pm.

3) Each year we host a community wide Easter egg hunt. This year we are hiding over 2,500 eggs for the children to find. Well, finding them isn't very hard, but it is sure fun to watch them! The fun begins on Saturday, April 7th at 9:30 am and is free to everyone.

4) Easter sunrise service (April 8th). At 7am on Easter morning, we will gather outside under the oak trees to remember the first Easter morning. Afterwards, we are planning to eat breakfast together. There will be no Sunday School classes that day.

5) Finally, at 10:45, our regularly scheduled worship service will help us to finish our celebration.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1806240977657995006.post-7299496790240328592012-03-02T14:53:00.000-06:002012-03-02T14:53:01.811-06:00Under the Oak: March 2012You can view this month's newsletter by clicking on the arrows at the
If you will be in the Irving area this Christmas, please know that you are invited to celebrate Christmas with us. We would love to welcome you and your family to our Christmas celebrations.

Our Christmas Eve Candlelight is scheduled for Saturday, December 24th (Christmas Eve) at 6:30pm.

"Christmas isn't Christmas until it happens in your heart."

That is a line from a song our church usual sings at Christmas. We believe it is true, and can't wait to have the chance to sing that song with your family. May this Christmas season be a blessing to you. Sundays September 18, 2011-October 4, 2011

“Be a winner at the game of life” we have often heard people say. Often, winning simply means outdoing
someone else, having the most money and nicest cars and being comfortable. Life, however, is not played, it is lived. How do we live a life full of meaning and find real purpose? God's answers might surprise you--there's nothing hidden or secret about them!

So, if you have ever lost your keys, or just know that God wants so much more for your life than we realize, you will want to listen.
This Sunday so much of our nation's attention will be given to remembering the tragic events of 9/11. As we all recall that day in our minds, and think about how that day impacted our lives, our church would like to invite you to be a part of a special time of remembrance and healing.

It is our belief that God was there with us all that day, as God has always been with us. Ten years later we have learned much about ourselves and the world. Now, we want to make time for us all to consider God's message of love and hope to us, even in times of despair.

Join us this Sunday at 10:45 to be a part of our remembrance and healing.

Also, at 9:30am, we are having a special presentation of the short film entitled The Cross and the Towers. You can preview the video here. This video reaffirms our hope and conviction that God is with us.

However you remember that day, please take time to pray. Pray for families directly affected by 9/11. Pray that we could prevent anything like 9/11 from happening ever again, anywhere. Pray that God's peace would be known more throughout the world. Pray, as Jesus taught us to, for our enemies. Gilbert Elementary School and the education department at The University of Dallas. We are excited to have formalized this relationship and have the opportunity to work with the students and staff at Gilbert.

The Irving ISD posted this video taken from the ceremony:
